And you probably made you sis a nice profit when you dropped those two silver half dollars under the porch. At the time, they were worth 50 cents apiece. Now the silver content is worth about 7 bucks each.
Pat, I listened to a lot of Carpenters songs in my teen years. Karen had an amazing voice.
And - brush with greatness: I met Margaret Hamilton! I was interning at KMOX radio in St. Louis while in college, and she came to the station for an interview while in town for some production. This was 1975, so she was in her 70s. But one look at her and there was not doubt. This was the Wicked Witch of the West! She was most gracious and kind. Sweet, really. It was such a pleasure to meet her. Imagine going through your whole life with people tripping over themselves or making assumptions about her as a real person based on one role she played.
I saw her on ABC-TV's "Discovery" kids show show with Frank Buxton and Virginial Gibson when I was a kid. She explained how they did all the special effects for the movie -- how she melted and everything. She seemed very nice and made everything less scary.
I hope your sister reads this. A beautiful writing.
Loved this! Enjoyable read.
