I’m adding a note about a Kansas chaplain, not as an argument about the states, but as a further reflection on the heroism and sacrifice of chaplains. Emil Kapaun served in both WWII and the Korean wars. He died as a prisoner of war during the Korean conflict and is regarded as a martyr. He’s been denominated as a “Venerable,” a stage in the process toward sainthood.
omigosh, yes. He is a hero. Father Kapaun was on a death march as a POW in Korea and saved many lives. Read all about him in my research on Korean War POW-MIAs here at Sullivan Brorthers Iowa Veterans Museum several years ago. He is a Medal of Honor recipient. I see since I did my research his remains were identified and laid to rest at a cathedral in Wichita. Thanks for mentioning him. Maybe he'll be the first Medal of Honor recipient canonized by the church.

Prayers for heroes.
