Thank you Pat. My dad and his 3 brothers served in WWII. One older cousin was a WAC trained in DSM. I don't recall any of them discussed why they served. I wonder if any survivors in Iowa would discuss why they fought and what it meant to be American.
My dad always flew the flag, as did his dad (all my grandparents fled eastern Europe before Hitler. Neither my dad nor my uncles ever talked about the war, or about my flying the flag was so important.
